A calm, structured approach to fixing inaccuracies without making things worse.

Errors on credit reports are more common than most people realize — and you have the legal right to dispute them.

Step 1: Get all three reports

Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion can show different information. Pull all three from AnnualCreditReport.com before disputing anything.

Step 2: Document the issue

For each item, note exactly what's wrong: incorrect balance, account not yours, paid debt still showing open, wrong date, etc.

Step 3: Dispute in writing

Online disputes are convenient but written disputes create a clearer record. Send to both the credit bureau AND the original creditor (the 'furnisher').

Step 4: Be patient — and follow up

Bureaus have 30 days to investigate. Save everything. If the result isn't what you expected, you have additional rights to add a consumer statement and to re-dispute with new information.
